Justin Reid wears custom Saints Mardi Gras jersey at Tucks parade

Whew. New Orleans Saints safety Justin Reid turned heads at Saturday's Krewe of Tucks parade wearing a custom jersey proudly displaying Mardi Gras colors. The third-party jersey looks like a custom job made without input from Nike or the NFL, but it's something the Saints should at least look to for inspiration. They're going to receive new threads as part of the NFL's "Rivalries" collaboration with Nike in 2027 or 2028; it's their answer to the NBA's City Edition uniforms and MLB's popular City Connect jerseys.

It's a very, very clean look. Like the team's fan-favorite "Color Rush" uniforms, the jersey uses a white base with gold numbers, but the detailing stands out. Bands of purple, green, and gold wrap around the sleeves and collar to give it a festive air without feeling gaudy. For traditionalists, the lettering is still in black, and the classic fleur-de-lis Louisiana patch is featured prominently on the front. It checks all the boxes.

But we're a ways off from the Saints getting more new uniforms. It's already been reported that teams in the AFC South and NFC North will receive new "Nike Rivalries" jerseys in 2026, with the AFC East and NFC West having gotten them in 2025. This promotion continues in 2027 and 2028 so stay tuned. At least the Saints have already unveiled new uniform components like alternate white helmets (to match the "Color Rush" jerseys) and gold jerseys last season. With that said -- leaning into Carnival season like this would be a welcome move.
