The New York Jets have a very clear and dire need at the quarterback position. Aaron Glenn, if he has a bad 2026 season, could be fired after just two seasons. Darren Mougey isn't safe either, especially if they can't find a QB for 2026.

Justin Fields was a disaster, as he struggled, on multiple occasions, to eclipse 100 yards passing in a game. While the Jets likely want a safe quarterback, there's an appealing option hitting free agency that might be worth a gamble.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report urges the Jets to sign a free agent quarterback who had a passer rating of 105.5 this past season and who also has a similar skillset to Fields. Thatquarterback is none other than Malik Willis, who would be someone worth the "gamble" in the eyes of Moton.

Jets urged to 'gamble' on Malik Willis as new starter

"In a full-time starting role, Willis could blossom into a dynamic playmaker," Moton writes. "If he doesn't, Glenn may have to cross his fingers and hope to keep his job, but the 53-year-old lead skipper should gamble on the dual-threat signal-caller's upside."

The Jets cannot go into 2026 with Fields as their starter. Not after he was benched mid-season for Tyrod Taylor. Landing a new quarterback, likely a veteran, is a must.

Willis might be the highest upside quarterback available this offseason, as the former Tennessee Titans third-round bust has found his stride in Green Bay.

Now a free agent, with an impressive 105.5 passer rating on 98 snaps in 2025, Willis is looking to find a new home, likely as the starter.

Similar to Fields, Willis can run with the ball. This past season, in his limited action, Willis ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts.

While his rushing ability might mirror Fields', the passing attack from Willis is far better than that from Fields. This past season, he went 30-35 for an 85.7 completion percentage to go with 422 yards passing, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

Willis is a quarterback worth taking a gamble on, but with how rough the Jets looked last year, it might not be the best idea for the Jets to sign someone similar in playstyle to Fields.

Someone safer, who can give the young skill players more of a chance to shine, might be what Glenn and Mougey decide to go with. But, if they're looking to land the best QB this offseason, Willis would be that option.
