The Louisville men’s basketball team celebrated Valentine’s Day with an impressive 82-71 win over Baylor Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth. The victory was the Cardinals’ fifth straight.

In his first game since tying a school record with 45 points, Mikel Brown Jr. was once again phenomenal. The freshman point guard scored a game-high 29 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. He added six assists and five steals for good measure.

J’Vonne Hadley tossed in a season-high 20 points, while Ryan Conwell added 14.

Despite being limited to 2-of-22 shooting from three, Baylor stayed in the game at the free-throw line. Louisville was whistled for 20 fouls, resulting in the Bears shooting 25-of-30 from the charity stripe.

That was about the only thing that went significantly wrong for Louisville, which assisted on 18 of its 28 made field goals and outscored Baylor by 11 points in the second half.

Who knows where it leads, but this team certainly seems to be starting to play its best basketball of the season at the perfect time. Another big opportunity in the Lone Star State Tuesday night.
