Longtime 49ers TE coach Brian Fleury reportedly joining rival Seahawks as new OC originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
After seven seasons with the 49ers, longtime tight ends coach Brian Fleury reportedly is joining San Francisco’s biggest rival.
The Seattle Seahawks are expected to hire Fleury as their new offensive coordinator, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday, citing sources. Fleury will replace another former 49ers assistant, Klint Kubiak, who recently was hired as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Schefter previously reported that Fleury was interviewing for Seattle’s vacant OC role on Saturday, exactly four weeks after the Seahawks crushed the 49ers 41-6 in the NFC divisional playoff round.
Fleury joined the 49ers in 2019 as a defensive quality control coach. He became offensive quality control coach for the 2020-21 seasons before taking over as San Francisco’s tight ends coach in 2022, and he most recently was promoted again to run game coordinator/tight ends coach for the 2025 NFL season.
The 49ers already lost two assistants this offseason, with former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh taking the Tennessee Titans’ head-coaching job. Saleh also brought over Gus Bradley, who was San Francisco’s assistant head coach of defense in 2025.
Now, Fleury will be reunited with former 49ers quarterback Sam Darnold as the Seahawks look to maintain their dominance in a loaded NFC West and defend their Super Bowl title.
