The Arizona Diamondbacks are finally getting back together as a team and preparing for the 2026 MLB season in hopes of returning to the postseason.

While the status of Corbin Burnes is a bit up in the air for the season, the other Corbin on the team got some terrible news after an injury during batting practice.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Corbin Carroll suffered a broken hamate bone in his right hand and will now miss the World Baseball Classic, and he might even miss Opening Day in roughly six weeks.

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll to miss World Baseball Classic, potentially Opening Day

"News: Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder Corbin Carroll broke the hamate bone in his right hand and is undergoing surgery today, sources tell ESPN," Passan reports. "He will miss the World Baseball Classic, and his ability to play Opening Day is now in question."

Carroll isn't the first player this year to come into camp with a hamate bone injury. Jackson Holliday of the Baltimore Orioles is going to miss a lot of time with the same issue, and Francisco Lindor is also dealing with a similar issue.

All three are going to miss a lot of Spring Training, and could even miss Opening Day, and beyond, if the recovery process doesn't go perfectly.

But, for Carroll, this issue is a whole lot worse. He's going to have to miss being a part of Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

A chance to play in the WBC is a great honor, and unfortunately for Carroll, that will have to wait as he's not going to be able to suit up for his country before the 2026 MLB season.

Not only will this hamate bone injury force him to miss the World Baseball Classic, but his Opening Day status is in jeopardy, and even when he does return, his power likely won't be back.

It might be a while before Carroll is back to full strength, as this injury is not an easy one to overcome. This is a brutal injury for Carroll for many reasons, and the World Baseball Classic impact might be the worst result of this injury.
