Nowadays, you can’t turn on a tc channel or podcast streaming platform without seeing current or former Pittsburgh Steelers hosting some sort of show. Ben Roethlisberger has his podcast Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, and Cam Heyward also has his own show, Not Just Football.
Former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter has been a frequent guest on Heyward’s show, and recently took aim at Roethlisberger, claiming he was a bad teammate.
“The sh*t that [Roethlisberger did]… that we don’t talk about is crazy,” Porter said. “Like, out of anybody that should talk, he should never grab a microphone and really talk Steelers business. Because if we’re talking Steeler business, his ass is foul of all foul. Like, the sh*t that he did is foul of all foul. He’s not a good teammate. [I] won a Super Bowl with him. But the person? He’s just not a good teammate. Like, he knows that. Anybody in the Steeler building knows that. But we protected him. Because I’ve only won one Super Bowl, and that was my quarterback. So do I love my quarterback? Yeah, but is he a good person? No.”
Porter then tells a story about Roethlisberger refusing to sign things for the family members of teammates, specifically Aaron Smith and Chris Hoke – something that every other veteran player did if family members wanted something signed.
Additionally, it’s not hard to figure out what he is referring to in terms of personal behavior. Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault on two separate occasions in 2009 and 2010, though he was never criminally charged.
Porter and Roethlisberger were teammates from 2004-07, winning Super Bowl XL together in Roethlisberger’s second season.
