Barcelona veteran knows what he needs to do to earn new contract amid MLS offer

Robert Lewandowski finds himself at a decisive crossroads in his Barcelona career.

According to Polish journalist Mateusz Borek, as relayed by SPORT, the Polish striker has privately set a scoring target for the remainder of the season in a bid to earn a contract extension.

Lewandowski, now approaching his 38th birthday, is no longer producing numbers at the level that once made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards.

His contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and uncertainty surrounds what comes next.

So far this season, he has featured in 31 matches and scored 13 goals, which is a modest return compared to previous years.

Furthermore, in recent weeks, his influence has also dipped. Against Levante, he played 66 minutes, managed just 18 touches and took two shots before being substituted.

Lewandowski is happy at Barcelona

Despite speculation about a possible exit, Lewandowski’s preference is clear. He wants to stay at Barcelona.

His family is settled, his wife has launched business projects in the city, and their children are comfortable in their new environment. Stability matters.

Interest from abroad is growing. Chicago Fire are reportedly pushing hard to bring him to Major League Soccer with a lucrative financial package.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are also prepared to table significant offers. Financially, he would not be short of options.

Yet the striker is not ready to walk away. As Borek revealed, Lewandowski has identified a clear path to convincing the Barcelona hierarchy.

“Robert is probably thinking that if he scores 10 goals between now and the end of the season, Barça could offer him a new contract,” says the Polish sports journalist.

That target would significantly boost his seasonal tally and potentially shift the internal discussion led by Deco and Flick.

However, as one can expect, the challenge is steep not only because of the target but also because Ferran Torres is ahead of him in the pecking order.
