Antoine Griezmann in negotiations with Orlando City for a summer transfer

Antoine Griezmann (34) has reportedly entered into negotiations with Orlando City SC with a view to a transfer during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to information from The Athletic.

The French international (137 caps, 44 goals), whose contract with Atlético Madrid runs until June 2027, would thus be a priority target for The Lions. Although no agreement has been reached between the various parties to date, Orlando would nevertheless hold discovery rights — a rule specific to MLS that gives them priority to sign the forward — over Griezmann.

Three other franchises in the league are also reportedly interested in acquiring the 2018 World Cup champion.

If he signs with Orlando, Griezmann would occupy a designated player slot, meaning his wages would not be subject to MLS salary cap restrictions. Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi (38) and Luis Suárez (39) play, reportedly considered signing the 34-year-old but abandoned the idea as their three designated player slots are currently filled.

Orlando, ninth in the Eastern Conference last season, would like to sign the Frenchman before the transfer window closes on 26 March, but are facing resistance from the player, who wants to finish the season in Madrid to end his time there on a high note.
