Dolphins GM confirms Miami has discussed signing top free agent QB

After making a quarterback change from Tua Tagovailoa to Quinn Ewers late in the 2025 season, the Miami Dolphins seem to be looking for a new full-time starter going forward.

There are some intriguing options for the Dolphins to consider in free agency and the upcoming NFL draft, and on Tuesday, Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan confirmed that the team has had discussions about one of the top quarterbacks hitting the market - Malik Willis.

"Malik is a very, very good kid. It's a testament to him and how he played in the opportunities that he got," Sullivan said. "As it pertains to the Miami Dolphins, any team that's in a needy-quarterback situation, if they're telling you they're not talking about Malik Willis, that would be a lie.

"But we've talked about a lot of people, a lot of free agents. Malik is just one of them. We have no idea what that's going to look like in our room. Are we going to have multiple draft picks? Is it going to be a free agent along with Quinn? Who knows. We have so many factors at play. We have a lot of decisions to make as we move through the next couple of weeks, but I wish Malik the best. I have a lot of like for the human being. He's a great kid."

Sullivan got an up-close look at Willis the past two years with the Green Bay Packers, and the quarterback impressed over the last two years, appearing in 11 games and starting three while leading the team to a 2-1 record. In those games, he completed 78.7% of his passes for 972 yards and six touchdowns without an interception.

That's a massive improvement from the 1-2 record while completing 53% of his passes for 350 yards and three interceptions without a touchdown during his time with the Titans.

Willis is near the top of the quarterback free-agent market, along with Aaron Rodgers, Daniel Jones and Russell Wilson. At 27 years old, he's the youngest of the trio, meaning he could start for the next decade or so.

However, teams may be willing to pay Willis more than the Dolphins are willing to spend, especially considering they may have nearly $50 million in dead cap if they release Tagovailoa this year.
