If men’s basketball is the University of Arizona’s most well-known export, space science isn’t far behind.
The university is celebrating its acclaimed space program through ‘Galaxy Slam,’ a week-long series of community activities and on-campus events running from Feb. 14-21.
Arizona men’s basketball is taking part by wearing special uniforms for the Feb. 18 game vs. BYU.
The uniform resembles Arizona’s traditional navy blue fits but with stars interspersed on the sides of the jersey and shorts. The shorts feature an Arizona basketball patch that resembles the planets of the solar system.
Arizona announced the uniforms in a promo video narrated by Senator Mark Kelly, who is a retired NASA astronaut.
Arizona has generally shied away from wearing alternate uniforms under Tommy Lloyd since the program retired its gradient jerseys in favor of the current fits, which themselves are a nod to the uniforms of the late 1980s and 1990s.
