2026 Rookie of the Year Odds: Yesavage Has Early Advantage

Buckle up, these odds will fluctuate wildly over the next month.

Players like Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage and New York Mets hurler Nolan McLean, who lead their respective leagues in Rookie of the Year odds, are more or less guaranteed roster spots barring injury.

Likewise, Japanese players like Munetaka Murakami, Kazuma Okamoto, and Tatsuya Imai will open the year in the majors, giving them a clear runway to compete for Rookie of the Year.

However, for as much helium as there may be around yet-to-debut players like JJ Wetherholt, Travis Bazzana, Konnor Griffin, and Kevin McGonigle, their spots are less certain. Spring training will offer a better idea of which players will earn a spot on Opening Day, and which ones will get a little more seasoning in Triple-A.

Now, just because a player gets jettisoned to the minors doesn't mean he'll be out of the running. Even with the incentives in place for having rookies on the roster from Opening Day through to the end of the season, ROY winners haven't exclusively fit that mold. Nick Kurtz was a midseason promotion last season. So was Paul Skenes in 2024.

So keep an eye on the MLB odds for AL and NL Rookie of the Year as spring training gets moving.

Past Rookie of the Year winners

Previous AL RoY winners

Although all players have an equal chance of winning the AL Rookie of the Year Award, the honor has been claimed disproportionately by outfielders since its inception in 1949. Outfielders have 24 victories compared to 17 for pitchers and 17 for shortstops. Catchers are bringing up the rear with just two ROY victories over the past 73 years.

Previous NL RoY winners

No franchise has won more Rookie of the Year awards than the Dodgers. "The Blue Crew" have claimed 18 RoY trophies dating back to the club's early days in Brooklyn.

However, unlike the AL — where the West has been the recent home of the top rookies — the NL East has housed six of the last 13 RoYs, with a mix of outfielders, infielders, starting pitchers, a catcher, and even a reliever.
