TAMPA, Fla. – As the first official Yankees’ pitchers and catchers workout of 2026 ended, the first camp concern surfaced.
After announcing that sophomore starter Cam Schlittler is dealing with midback inflammation, the Yankees did their best to muffle any alarms Thursday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field.
Schlittler put his level of concern at “zero,’’ with the anticipation of climbing back on a pitching mound by the end of next week.
“For now, it’s just good to take care of it and make sure it doesn’t turn into something you start to worry about,’’ said Schlittler, who will continue to throw off flat ground.
Schlittler has worked through similar issues in the past, but he also mentioned his “minor inflammation’’ extended to his lat “as well,’’ though initial tests were overall encouraging.
“Something we’re just trying to stay ahead of,’’ said manager Aaron Boone. “Just want to make sure we don’t turn this into something else.’’
