Arizona Cardinals expected to hire Matt Schaub as QB coach

The Arizona Cardinals have not made any coaching announcements since the hiring of head coach Matt LaFleur, but the offensive staff is filling out. The latest expected addition is a former NFL starting quarterback.

According to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz, the Cardinals are expected to make Matt Schaub their new quarterbacks coach.

Schaub played in the NFL from 2004-2020 and started 93 games, mostly for the Houston Texans from 2007-2013. He made the Pro Bowl twice and led the NFL in passing in 2009.

This will be his first-ever coaching position. He was a football analyst for the Atlanta Falcons for the last three years.

He will be tasked with helping the Cardinals' yet unknown quarterback room be better. The team is trying to trade Kyler Murray, and it is yet unknown whether they want to being Jacoby Brissett back for a second season.

Schaub has played in every role. He has been a high-end starter, an average starter and he has been on the bench.

He will join expected offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, working under new head coach Mike LaFleur.
