The race for the top spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics is heating up, with Week 1 of the Milan-Cortina Games winding down. Entering the day of competition on Friday, February 13, the United States sits in a tie for the second-most medals.
Team USA has 14 medals through the opening days, including four gold, seven silver, and three bronze.
Women have accounted for seven of the 14 medals, including two of the golds. Team USA has been most successful in freestyle skiing (3) and alpine skiing (2), but figure skating is on the rise.

Leading the way in overall medal count is Italy, with 17 total medals (6 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze), while Norway has the most gold medals with seven.

On Thursday, Team USA picked up two additional medals, with Chloe Kim earning silver in the women’s snowboarding halfpipe and Jessie Diggins finishing with bronze in the women’s cross-country skiing 10km.
The United States has a great opportunity to pick up another gold medal on Friday afternoon, when figure skating sensation Ilia Malinin hits the ice in the men’s free skate.
