Berks bowling championships: Exeter’s Haley Schwenk and Wilson’s Aiden Hattendorf win titles

Exeter’s Haley Schwenk and Wilson’s Aiden Hattendorf captured singles titles at the BCIAA bowling championships on Thursday at Hiesters Lanes.

Schwenk, a senior, defeated Wilson senior Brielle Turner 203-184 in the championship match to win the girls title.

In the boys championship match, Hattendorf, a senior, edged Muhlenberg junior Cameron Peffel, 205-201.

The 24-player field in each tournament was whittled down to the top six after four games on Thursday, the second day of the tournament for both boys and girls.

Schwenk and Turner advanced to the individual matches along with Muhlenberg sophomore Michelle Rohrbach, Conrad Weiser freshman Abigail Marburger, Oley Valley freshman Addilyn Howard and Daniel Boone sophomoreBreanna Fitzcharles.

Rohrbach and Turner had byes into the semifinals because they finished one-two after the eight qualifying games, 1,647 and 1,589, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, Schwenk defeated Fitzcharles 217-191, and Marburger beat Howard, 203-173.

In the semifinals, Schwenk rolled a 299 game to defeat Rohrbach who had 204. In the other semifinal, Turner beat Marburger 234-136.

Rohrbach finished third in the tournament with Marburger fourth, Howard fifth and Fitzcharles sixth.

In the boys tournament, Hattendorf and Peffel were joined in the individual matches by Schuylkill Valley senior Tyler Spitler-Bruno, Gov. Mifflin senior Trent Wunderlich, Reading High junior Savian Maldonaldo and Gov. Mifflin senior Jayden Breidenstein.

Spitler-Bruno and Hattendorf had the top scores, 1,858 and 1,833 respectively, after eight qualifying games and earned byes into the semifinals.

In the quarterfinals, Peffel defeated Maldonado, 226-194, and Wunderlich beat Breidenstein, 222-215.

Peffel advanced to the finals with a 224-183 win over Spitler-Bruno, and Hattendorf moved on with a 195-189 victory over Wunderlich.

Spitler-Bruno finished third in the tournament with Wunderlich fourth, Maldonado fifth and Breidenstein sixth.

The BCIAA team tournament begins Tuesday at Hiesters and finishes on Thursday.
