One of the most exciting players in basketball is Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg.

Normally, for those who don't watch him play on a regular basis, the Rising Stars Game would be a great chance to see Flagg in action.

That just won't be the case this year.

It's a bummer for basketball fans, but Flagg won't be suiting up.

Why isn't Cooper Flagg playing in the Rising Stars game?

Flagg is missing the Rising Stars action with injury.

The rookie out of Duke missed the Mavs' final game before the All-Star break as well.

He had an MRI on Wednesday that revealed a left midfoot sprain, according to official announcement by the Mavericks.

Flagg was hurt Tuesday while taking on the Phoenix Suns, a game in which he had 27 points in 36 minutes.

This season, Flagg is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

He scored an NBA teenager record 49 points on Jan. 29.

The Mavericks are on a nine-game skid heading into the break, including a loss to the Lakers on Thursday without Flagg.

The No. 1 overall pick will hope to get back on the court on Friday, Feb. 20, when the Mavericks return to action against the Timberwolves.
