Five released Kaizer Chiefs players set to face Amakhosi next season

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have released seven players this off-season from the first team squad or development teams, with five of them joining PSL rivals.

Aden McCarthy, George Matlou, Happy Mashiane, Fiacre Ntwari, Tashreeq Morris, Gastón Sirino and Siyabonga Gumede have all left Kaizer Chiefs. sportbet.rodeo

McCarthy joined Azerbaijani champions Sabah FC, while Mashiane remains without a club at the time of publishing.

However, the other five players have stayed in South Africa after signing for Betway Premiership rival sides.

Khalil Ben Youssef is the new head coach of Durban City.

After Kaizer Chiefs parted ways with Youssef, he quickly secured a new role with the KwaZulu-Natal-based club.

Initially, he reunited with former Kaizer Chiefs striker Tashreeq Morris. Thereafter, Durban City completed the signing of experienced midfielder Gastón Sirino.

As a result, Youssef has now brought two former Amakhosi players to Durban ahead of the new season.

DDC STARLET RELEASED, SIGNS FOR RICHARDS BAY

Durban-based clubs continue to recruit former Kaizer Chiefs players.

Amakhosi DStv Diski Challenge graduate Siyabonga Gumede has reportedly signed for Betway Premiership side Richards Bay.

“A Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate has joined KwaZulu-Natal side Richards Bay ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign,” KickOff reported.

Gumede captained Kaizer Chiefs’ DDC side last season. Now, the young defender is set to begin the next chapter of his career in the Betway Premiership with Richards Bay.

He joins a plethora of talented DDC starlets who have recently left Naturena, following the likes of Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi and Khulumani Ndamane as top talents who came from Kaizer Chiefs grassroots who they let slip through the ranks.

The Glamour Boys could well come up against the five former players during the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

If selected, Amakhosi could face Morris and Sirino (Durban City), Matlou (Stellenbosch FC), Ntwari (Kruger United) and Gumede (Richards Bay) over the course of the campaign.

Kaizer Chiefs Communications Officer Vina Maphosa has refused to rule out more signings before the transfer window closes at the end of September.

The Soweto giants have already strengthened Fernando Da Cruz’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season. However, supporters continue to speculate that more new faces could still arrive at Naturena.

VINA MAPHOSA ADDRESSES TRANSFERS

Speaking on SABC News, Maphosa admitted the club remains active in the market after taking two new signings to the pre-season camp in Spain.

“It’s an exciting question because we took two of our new signings to Spain camp,” Maphosa said on SABC News. “That is Renaldo Leaner, the goalkeeper from Sekhukhune United, and Thabo Moloisane, the defender from Stellenbosch FC.

“And we had our four technical team members that are new to the team, that are to be integrated.

“As to who is coming, it’s that one where we say ‘it is not over until the fat lady sings.’ Until the end of September when the transfer window closes. But it’s exciting times for us. Come to the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace [on Sunday, 26 July]. We will be wearing our new home kit, and away kit in the second half.

“Tickets are available at Computicket, only R100,” Maphosa concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs will conclude their pre-season preparations against Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC in the Toyota Cup. The match takes place at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Sunday, 26 July, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

The Glamour Boys recently returned from Spain after drawing 1-1 with Rangers FC, drawing 1-1 against Al Kholood Club, and losing 2-1 to Elche CF.

KAIZER CHIEFS RESHAPE THE SQUAD

While the club continues to monitor the transfer market, it has already confirmed several departures before the new Betway Premiership campaign.

George Matlou joined Stellenbosch FC, Aden McCarthy signed for Sabah SC, and Happy Mashiane left as a free agent. Tashreeq Morris and Gaston Sirino both completed moves to Durban City.

Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari also looks set to leave after Kruger United unveiled him as their new loan signing. Kaizer Chiefs have yet to officially confirm the move.

Team doctor Clement Plaatjies helped save a fellow passenger’s life after a medical emergency forced the Junior Springboks’ flight back to Johannesburg on Monday.

The Junior Boks were travelling from OR Tambo International to Cape Town, after defending their Junior World Championship title in Georgia, when a woman collapsed aboard the aircraft over Bloemfontein.

Junior Boks coach Kevin Foote revealed that SA Rugby general manager for high performance Dave Wessels alerted Plaatjies, who immediately rushed to assist.

“A woman collapsed on the flight,” Foote was quoted by Netwerk24. “I saw Dave calling Clem and when he got there, he resuscitated her. He literally pumped and pumped and said he wasn’t picking up a pulse.”

Junior Springbok doctor to the rescue

Plaatjies eventually revived the passenger before the captain turned the aircraft around and returned to OR Tambo, where emergency services were waiting.

The Cape Town-bound flight was further delayed before take-off resumed later that afternoon. The Junior Boks eventually landed in Cape Town more than three hours behind schedule.

Foote’s charges became the first South African side to win back-to-back Junior World Championship titles after beating France 16-5 in Tbilisi on Saturday.
