Miami (Florida) [US], July 11 (ANI): England head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed that FIFA is yet to explain why defender Jarell Quansah’s suspension was increased from the standard one match to two following his red card against Mexico, reported Sky Sports.

Quansah was sent off after a VAR review early in the second half of England’s dramatic 3-2 Round of 16 victory over co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca Stadium for an ankle-high challenge on Jesus Gallardo. While such dismissals typically result in a one-match suspension, FIFA upgraded the punishment to two matches after classifying the challenge as “serious foul play."

The decision came amid scrutiny over FIFA’s disciplinary processes after the governing body suspended the enforcement of United States forward Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban for a year, allowing him to feature against Belgium despite his earlier dismissal against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Asked whether his criticism of the officiating after the Mexico game could have influenced the disciplinary decision, Tuchel said, “I don’t think so. We also have no explanation," as quoted by Sky Sports.

The England manager had strongly criticised the standard of officiating following the victory over Mexico.

Despite Quansah’s absence, Tuchel received a significant boost ahead of the quarter-final after confirming that Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Reece James were all available for selection.

Rice had been recovering from illness after the Mexico match, while Guehi missed a training session earlier this week with a hamstring concern. James also returned to training after recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained during England’s group-stage match against Ghana.

“We had everyone available in training. That’s the best news," Tuchel said during his pre-match press conference. We have the full choice except for our suspended player [Quansah]," he said.

Reflecting on England’s progress in the tournament, Tuchel insisted his side had quickly turned its focus to the challenge posed by Norway.

“I think we took a big step in our last match, but it was only a step," he said, as per Sky Sports.

“We’re still hungry, we still have dreams, and we still have a big goal to play for. The next step is to win the quarter-final. We left this match behind. We take the positive things and the belief with us, but everything that matters is ahead of us," Tuchel added.

England head into the quarter-final on the back of three consecutive victories, including their hard-fought win over Mexico despite playing much of the second half with 10 men. Jude Bellingham scored twice in that contest, while Harry Kane added the decisive penalty.

Norway, meanwhile, arrive full of confidence after stunning five-time champions Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16. Erling Haaland struck twice as Stale Solbakken’s side reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time in the nation’s history.

The winners of Saturday’s clash at the Hard Rock Stadium will advance to the semi-finals, where either defending champions Argentina or Switzerland await. (ANI)

The BCCI will be organizing a review meeting of Indian team's poor show resulting in T20 series defeats against minnows Ireland and England once the ODI series gets over on July 19, according to secretary Devajit Saikia, who made it clear that the Board will not take any "knee-jerk" decisions. The Indian team lost 0-2 against Ireland and is already down 0-3 against England with a match left on Friday.

However, it is learnt that there is no imminent threat to head coach Gautam Gambhir's future as he has a contract with the BCCI till 2027 ODI World Cup. "The BCCI is currently observing the performance of the Indian T20 team which has not been up to the mark in the ongoing series against England," BCCI secretary Saikia told PTI on Friday from the sidelines of the ICC Annual Conference in Edinburgh..

The BCCI secretary said that it will be an overall assessment of the performance but the board won't be taking any knee-jerk reaction. "However this is not something abnormal and can happen in international cricket. We consider it as a purely bad phase. Once the ODI series gets over on July 19 and the team comes back, we will have a review meeting with core members of the team to discuss what went wrong in England. Since there is a ODI series, we are hoping that team will be back in good form," Saikia added.

Saikia also stressed that the review meeting will be "strictly about the performance of the team and how course correction can be done with regards to shortfalls. Nothing else will be discussed." Under head coach Gambhir, Indian team has achieved many "unwanted firsts" --including 0-3 Test whitewash and ODI series defeat at home against New Zealand and first ever T20I series defeat against Ireland. But a potential 0-4 whitewash in T20Is against England is worse than a nightmare.

It is understood that review meeting will be attended by Gambhir, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer is expected to fly to Zimbabwe for the three-match series and hence there is no clarity on his availability. Similar reviews had also taken place after New Zealand home, Australia away and SA home series debacles too.

It is only four months since India defended their T20 World Cup crown under the tutelage of Gambhir and there is no reason to believe that a double ICC Trophy winning coach will be dumped as a hot potato.

But there is another aspect that also holds true. Since that night in Ahmedabad, a lot of water had flown through both Sabarmati and the Thames making this current team under new captain Shreyas Iyer look a pale shadow of its original self. However the former Delhi left-hander might be asked some pertinent questions about the horrendous performance of T20 squad.

Communication or lack of it?

It is true that Gambhir is not a member of the selection committee that picks the squad. But when it comes to choosing the playing eleven, the man from Delhi's Old Rajender Nagar has had the maximum say in a team that doesn't have too many superstars. While selection committee can be panned for not selecting Sanju Samson for Zimbabwe T20 series, the question that begs an answer from Gambhir is that why would he drop Samson from the playing eleven to make space for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, whose time would have come sooner or later.

Recently when the news of Samson's axing from the Zimbabwe-bound squad masquerading as "rested" was announced, quotes from his old interview where he said that Gambhir had told him that he will only be dropped if he had 21 zeroes had resurfaced. Cut to India's post match conference after 76 all-out where the head coach said that he has had "conversation" with Samson and he won't reveal the contents respecting the sanctity of their meeting.

But the question that comes up is that even if there is communication, is there clarity? If someone had been told to play freely and 21 ducks won't matter and the same person is told that he is being "rested" having failed in three games post T20 World Cup? If Samson gets conflicting signals, can he be blamed for it.

Similarly second question that can be asked as to why there was no consistency in team selection during the tour. Across six T20I games in Ireland and England (including the abandoned), six different playing eleven was fielded with no two same team for any of these games.

It is a worst kept secret that Gambhir iis not on best of terms with either Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma when it comes to ODI side but these constant experiments have certainly created an air of uncertainty among players who rather than playing fearless cricket will be try to play for places in the eleven.

The third question that comes to mind is his obstinacy with a batter till No. 8, something that has been signature. What is Washington Sundar doing in the T20 scheme of things is another polite query which begs an answer. Former India keeper Deep Dasgupta, who is in UK as a broadcaster feels that with two years left, Gambhir and team management is allowed to look at a broader pool of players.

"Yes it is frustrating and disappointing but there's a bigger picture to look into. So there is no harm in trying players. These young players are not used to these conditions. Suddenly pitches are different. The way you play T20 in UK is different from how you play in India. In IPL, volume of runs in the first six overs becomes important but in England, the approach in Powerplay is more about preservation," Dasgupta said.

The auction for the third edition of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL 2026) is underway, with 156 players set to go under the hammer. The state’s domestic players are split into three pools, and the six franchises will round out their squads after retaining 17 players each. Each team has to pick between 16 and 20 players. Every franchise gets an auction purse of ₹50 lakh, and whatever they spent on retentions will be deducted before bidding starts.

London [UK], July 11 (ANI): Wimbledon celebrated three generations of Indian cricket icons with a special social media post featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill attending the Championships.

Taking to X, the official Wimbledon account shared a collage of photographs comparing two moments from Centre Court over a decade apart. The post featured Tendulkar and Kohli attending Wimbledon in 2015 alongside a 2026 image of Tendulkar seated next to Gill.

“Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill.Three generations of Indian cricketing royalty in one image," Wimbledon wrote on X.

The post quickly drew attention from cricket and tennis fans alike, celebrating the presence of three of India’s biggest cricket stars at the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.

Earlier, Tendulkar praised the quality of tennis on display at Wimbledon after watching the men’s singles semifinals from Centre Court, describing Jannik Sinner’s performance as a “masterclass" and lauding Alexander Zverev and Britain’s Arthur Fery for their efforts.

Tendulkar was among several sporting icons present in the Royal Box at Wimbledon, where he watched Zverev defeat Britain’s Arthur Fery to reach his maiden Wimbledon final before Sinner booked his place in the title clash with a commanding win over Serbian legend Djokovic.

He was joined by former West Indies captain Brian Lara, with the two batting greats sharing the spotlight after years of being fierce international rivals and later teammates in several charity matches.Current India Test captain Shubman Gill also attended the semi-final, adding another touch of cricketing royalty to Centre Court.

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 11 (ANI): The International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO) Academy, in collaboration with the International School Sport Federation (ISF) Academy and FIBA (International Basketball Federation), has successfully concluded its three-city PE Educators Upskill Program with the final Level 1 Coach Education certification programme held at Greenwood High, Sarjapur, Bengaluru.

The programme was led by internationally acclaimed Serbian basketball coach and former Head Coach of the Indian Men’s Basketball Team, Veselin Matic, who guided participants through internationally recognised coaching methodologies, player development principles and modern basketball teaching practices, according to a press release.

What was initially envisioned as a single city education initiative in Gurugram evolved into a three-city programme following an overwhelming response from Physical Education educators across the country.

After the successful inaugural programme at The Shri Ram School, Aravali, Gurugram, from May 25 to June 2, ISSO expanded the initiative to Ascend International School, Mumbai, from June 3 to 8, before concluding the final edition at Greenwood High, Sarjapur, Bengaluru, from July 1 to 6.

Each edition brought together 15 carefully selected Physical Education educators and basketball coaches, providing an immersive, internationally aligned learning experience under the guidance of one of the sport’s most respected coaching educators.

The initiative sought to empower educators with the knowledge and tools required to create stronger learning environments for young athletes within schools.

Speaking after the conclusion of the programme, Veselin Matic said, “When we started this initiative, the plan was to work with one group of educators. The response we received showed how eager teachers and coaches in India are to learn and embrace modern coaching methods. Across Gurugram, Mumbai and Bengaluru, I met educators who are deeply committed to their students and passionate about improving every day. Coach education creates a multiplier effect because every teacher returns to inspire hundreds of young athletes. That is how long-term sporting success is built."

Echoing the sentiment, Aakanksha Thapak, Director, International Schools Sports Organisation (ISSO), said, “The success of this programme is a reflection of the growing demand for world-class coach education in India’s school ecosystem. At ISSO, we firmly believe that investing in educators is one of the most impactful ways to strengthen grassroots sport. By partnering with globally recognised organisations like FIBA and ISF Academy, we are ensuring that Indian Physical Education teachers and coaches have access to international standards, best practices and learning opportunities that ultimately benefit every student-athlete."

The successful completion of the three-city FIBA Coach Education Programme marks another significant milestone in ISSO’s mission to elevate school sports through international collaborations and educator development.

In recent months, ISSO has successfully delivered globally recognised coach education programmes across multiple sports, including initiatives with the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), while also strengthening sporting pathways through its partnership with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
