New Zealand Test captain Tom Latham has confirmed that Matt Henry will lead the pace attack in the first Test against England at Lord’s, starting on Thursday, 4 June.
Despite being with the squad, Henry was a doubtful starter for the series opener as he was recovering from a minor strain in his left hamstring. Because of the injury, he missed the one-off Test against Ireland in Belfast last week, which New Zealand won by an innings.

Henry’s return to full fitness is good news for New Zealand, as he remains the most experienced pace bowler in the squad. Latham understands what Henry brings to the side.

“I think if you look at Henna’s record over the last three or four years, since taking the new ball, he’s been amazing for us,” Latham told reporters at Lord’s on Wednesday.
Having played county cricket for Somerset and Derbyshire, Henry’s experience will benefit the team.

“His record speaks for itself but I think the experience that he brings in New Zealand, and also in these conditions, is invaluable. He’s played a lot over here, played county cricket and featured in plenty of Test matches here as well,” said Latham. “He’s been fantastic for us, he’s a strike weapon, he’s got a lot of great skills and he leads the attack really well. It’s obviously been a while since he last played Test cricket in December, so he’ll be really excited to get the ball back in his hand and lead the attack again.”

Henry has an impressive overall Test record, with 140 wickets at an average of 27. In England, he has taken 16 wickets at an average of 40.56, with best figures of 4/93.

India T20 Captaincy: भारतीय क्रिकेट कंट्रोल बोर्ड (BCCI) टी20 टीम में सूर्यकुमार यादव के भविष्य पर चर्चा करने के लिए एक बैठक करने वाला है। रिपार्ट आ रही है कि इस मीटिंग में सूर्या को कप्‍तानी से हटाया जा सकता है। इसके साथ ही उन्हें इस महीने के आखिर में आयरलैंड और इंग्लैंड के व्हाइट-बॉल टूर के लिए आगामी सेलेक्शन मीटिंग में शामिल नहीं करने की चर्चा है। ये बैठक 6 जून से भारत बनाम अफगानिस्तान के बीच एकमात्र टेस्ट के आसपास चंडीगढ़ या मुंबई में होगी। इस मामले पर गुरुवार को बीसीसीआई की एपेक्स काउंसिल मीटिंग के दौरान बातचीत होगी। अब सवाल उठता है कि टीम इंडिया का अगला टी20 कप्‍तान कौन बनेगा? फिलहाल इस रेस में दो नाम सबसे आगे चल रहे हैं।

ગૌતમ ગંભીર સાથે ચર્ચા બાદ BCCI નો મોટો નિર્ણ

BCCIના એક ઉચ્ચ અધિકારીના જણાવ્યા અનુસાર, ચીફ સિલેક્ટર, બોર્ડના સભ્યો અને ટીમ મેનેજમેન્ટે મુખ્ય કોચ ગૌતમ ગંભીર સાથે લાંબી ચર્ચા કર્યા બાદ આ કડક નિર્ણય લીધો છે. 'ધ ઇન્ડિયન એક્સપ્રેસ' સાથેની વાતચીતમાં અધિકારીએ જણાવ્યું કે, "સૂર્યકુમાર યાદવની આગેવાનીમાં ભલે ટીમે શાનદાર પ્રદર્શન કર્યું હોય, પરંતુ તેના વર્તમાન ફોર્મ અને ભવિષ્યની રણનીતિને જોતાં મેનેજમેન્ટે હવે આગળ વધવાનો (નવા ખેલાડીઓને તક આપવાનો) સમય આવી ગયો હોવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું છે. આગામી સિરીઝ માટે તેની પસંદગી નહીં થાય અને આ અંગે સૂર્યાને પણ ટૂંક સમયમાં જાણ કરી દેવામાં આવશે."

કેપ્ટનશિપના કારણે સૂર્ય કુમારનું પ્રદર્શન કથળ્યું

વર્ષ ૨૦૨૪માં રોહિત શર્માની કેપ્ટનશીપ હેઠળ ભારતે વેસ્ટ ઈન્ડિઝમાં ટી૨૦ વર્લ્ડ કપ જીત્યો હતો, જેના પછી રોહિતે આ ફોર્મેટમાંથી નિવૃત્તિ લીધી અને કમાન સૂર્યકુમાર યાદવને સોંપવામાં આવી હતી. જો કે, કેપ્ટન બન્યા પછી સૂર્યાની બેટિંગ ગ્રાફ સતત નીચે આવ્યો છે. છેલ્લા બે વર્ષથી તે મોટા સ્કોર બનાવવામાં અસમર્થ રહ્યો છે. તાજેતરમાં પૂરી થયેલી આઈપીએલ 2026 માં પણ તેનું પ્રદર્શન ઘણું નિરાશાજનક રહ્યું હતું. જો કે તેણે રાજસ્થાન રોયલ્સ સામેની છેલ્લી મેચમાં અડધી સદી ફટકારી હતી, પરંતુ સમગ્ર સીઝન દરમિયાન તે રન બનાવવા માટે સંઘર્ષ કરતો જોવા મળ્યો હતો.
