US Open 2026: Four finalists, two titles and a blockbuster finish in New York

The 2026 US Open is set for a blockbuster finish, with four players from four different countries battling for the men’s and women’s singles titles at Flushing Meadows.
In the women’s singles, defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will take on Elena Rybakina, while Alexander Zverev and Ben Shelton will meet in the men’s singles final.
World number one Sabalenka has another chance to cement her dominance in the tournament, as the defending champion has reached her fourth consecutive US Open final and is chasing a third title. Sabalenka booked her place in the final with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Jessica Pegula in the semi-final. Her path to the championship match has included a tough quarter-final as well.
Standing in her way is Rybakina, the 2026 Australian Open champion. The Kazakh player overcame Coco Gauff 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the semi-final to reach her first US Open final. Rybakina will look to add another Grand Slam title to her growing collection, especially after defeating Sabalenka in the 2026 Australian Open final. The US Open final therefore pits the world number one against the world number two, with both players possessing huge serves and aggressive baseline games. xsportfeed.quest
The men’s final presents a contrasting storyline, as top seed Zverev is chasing his second Grand Slam title, while Shelton is appearing in his first major final. Zverev reached the championship match with a straight-sets win over Karen Khachanov: 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (8-6). The German has been knocking on the door of Grand Slam success for years and will now have another opportunity to add the US Open crown to his Olympic gold and other major achievements.
Meanwhile, Shelton has produced one of the tournament’s biggest breakthroughs, defeating American Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 in the semi-final to reach his first Grand Slam final. With experience on one side and momentum on the other, the Zverev-Shelton final promises to be a fascinating clash.

India vs Afghanistan 1st T20I: Rain threat looms as Shreyas Iyer-led India face Afghanistan in Delhi

Srishti Bhattacharya, New Delhi
India and Afghanistan will begin their three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. Shreyas Iyer will lead India, with Tilak Varma as his deputy, while Ibrahim Zadran will captain Afghanistan. India have won all eight completed men’s T20Is between the two sides and will look to continue that dominant record.
Earlier this year, Afghanistan toured India for a full series, with India dominating the contest. India won the one-off Test by an innings and 300 runs in New Chandigarh before completing a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODIs. Afghanistan, however, now have a strong mix of experience and attacking players, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan expected to play important roles.
India also have plenty of firepower, with Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi capable of providing an aggressive start, while Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube add depth to the batting. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy will lead the bowling attack.
Time and venue details
September 13, 7:00 PM IST. Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.
Expected conditions
Temperatures are expected to be around 33°C, with a chance of rain. The pitch is expected to favour batting, while dew could make an impact later on in the day. The average first-innings score at the venue is around 200.
Possible XIs
India: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Shreyas Iyer (c), Tilak Varma (vc), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.
Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran (c), Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Gulbadin Naib, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq.
Match-ups
Abhishek Sharma vs Fazalhaq Farooqi
Abhishek Sharma would be keen to make an impact from the start, while Fazalhaq Farooqi could trouble him with his swing and a different angle.
Ishan Kishan vs Rashid Khan
Ishan Kishan would look to take on Rashid Khan in the middle overs, but the Afghanistan spinner remains one of his side’s biggest wicket-taking threats.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz vs Arshdeep Singh
Rahmanullah Gurbaz would aim to make the most of the powerplay. On the other hand, Arshdeep Singh will be keen to keep the Afghanistan opener quiet early on in the innings.

Arsenal extend perfect Premier League start
Arsenal extended a flawless start to their Premier League title defence thanks to Bruno Guimaraes's stunning strike in a 2-0 win over Sunderland, while Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham were all held at home on Saturday.
Newly-promoted Hull remain unbeaten and third in the table after a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge as Liverpool failed to find a way past struggling Fulham in a goalless encounter.
Tottenham's wait for a league goal goes on despite a £300 million ($405 million) splurge on new players as they drew another blank in a stalemate with Everton.
Arsenal were also indebted to David Raya's penalty save from Enzo Le Fee as they opened up a three-point lead over Manchester City after four wins from their opening four games.
Just over two minutes later, Guimaraes silenced the Stadium of Light with his first Arsenal goal that arrowed into the top corner from long range.
Bukayo Saka's penalty with the final kick of the game sealed another impressive win for Mikel Arteta's men.
City can move back alongside leaders Arsenal if they win the Manchester derby against United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
But a significant gap is already beginning to open up between Arsenal and the rest of the title contenders.
Alonso seeks 'boring' Chelsea
It was a familiar tale for Chelsea as the front three of Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer dazzled, only for the Blues to be undone by an inability to defend.
In five games against top-flight opposition since Xabi Alonso took charge, Chelsea have scored 16 times and conceded 12.
"(It's) maybe entertaining, but I hope one day you'll say it was a boring game and we win and we don't give these entertaining moments," Alonso said after his side fell five points off the top.
Hull were the last side in the Premier League to concede, but after three clean sheets they were finally breached when Rogers drilled in at the near post on seven minutes.
Mohamed Belloumi took advantage of Chelsea's slackness at the back to strike twice before half-time.
Joao Pedro drilled a Palmer cross into the top corner to bring Chelsea level just after the hour mark.
But the home side could not find a winner as Hull's honeymoon back in the Premier League goes on.
Fulham fight for Arbeloa
Liverpool remain unbeaten under Andoni Iraola but there were boos at Anfield after Fulham picked up their first point under Alvaro Arbeloa.
A forward line featuring three £100 million players in Bradley Barcola, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak failed to click against the Cottagers' leaky defence.
"When you draw, especially at home, you can't be happy," said Iraola, who blamed fatigue after his side's Champions League exertions against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
"Today we lacked a bit of freshness and we did not do enough offensively to make the difference."
Sixth-placed Liverpool are already six points adrift of Arsenal.
Tottenham's big-spending window was supposed to ensure there would be no repeat of the 17th-place finishes of the previous two seasons.
But they sit just inside the relegation zone as a barren run in front of goal showed no sign of ending.
Aston Villa are also stuck in the bottom three after Nottingham Forest struck late to exact revenge for defeat in last season's Europa League semi-finals.
Eyebrows were raised at the club-record £45 million Forest reportedly paid Chelsea for Liam Delap after he failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge.
But Delap proved his worth with a long-range strike into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
Alysson levelled with Villa's first league goal of the season, but Igor Jesus secured Oliver Glasner's first win as Forest boss.
Glasner's old club Crystal Palace's poor start to the campaign continued with a 3-2 home defeat to Ipswich.
The visitors were aided by Axel Disasi's first-half red card as Zian Flemming's first goal for the Tractor Boys snatched all three points in stoppage time.
Brentford remain unbeaten thanks to Kevin Schade's double in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.
