Varun Chakaravarthy, Harshit Rana ruled out of England T20Is due to injuries

India have suffered a double injury setback, with Varun Chakaravarthy and Harshit Rana ruled out of the remainder of the five-match series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that both players have been withdrawn due to injuries in a media release issued after India won the toss in Bristol.

“Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the fourth and fifth T20Is,” the board said in its official statement.

For Varun, the latest setback adds to a growing list of fitness concerns. Earlier this year, the spinner sustained two fractures to his left hand during IPL 2026 before later suffering a hairline fracture in his left toe. Despite playing through discomfort, he missed the T20I series in Ireland to complete his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. He had also been sidelined by a foot injury in 2022.

Rana, meanwhile, has endured a difficult year with injuries. Earlier this year, the right-arm pacer sustained a hamstring strain during the third T20I against England, forcing him to miss the remaining matches. He had previously undergone surgery after suffering a lateral meniscus tear and ligament strain in his right knee during India’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa, an injury that kept him out for several months.
