Lafayette Jeff Wrestlers McCoy, McKinney Reach State

RJ McCoy finished third at 150 and Robert McKinney second at 215, making history as the first Lafayette Jeff wrestlers to reach the IHSAA state championship since 2021.

McCoy and McKinney earned spots at the IHSAA state championship after a hard‑fought semi‑state run, with McCoy taking third at 150 and McKinney second at 215. Their success marked the first time Lafayette Jeff wrestlers have reached state since 2021, prompting a celebratory trip home to Portillo’s in Tippecanoe County.

The duo’s journey began in seventh grade and was supported by coach Tom Miller and family, especially McCoy’s father Phillip. Their achievement also paved the way for other local wrestlers—Gavin Mason, Lukas Scott, Jacob Cole and Jacob Weaver—to represent the area at state.
