Atanasio Girardot Stadium Revamped for 2027

Medellín’s administration confirmed a major renovation of Atanasio Girardot Stadium, expanding capacity to 60,000 and requiring Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín to move temporarily.

The ambitious project aims to deliver a world-class venue by December 2027, featuring expanded capacity, roof renewals, and updated infrastructure. Construction is slated to begin in late July after the bidding process concludes in May.

However, the clubs face challenges securing venues for the second half of 2026 and all of 2027, particularly with international tournaments like the Copa Libertadores requiring Conmebol-approved facilities.
