In the upcoming Netflix series Drive to Survive, former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner clarified that the decision to relieve him of his duties in July 2024 was made by company chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff and adviser Helmut Marko, not by Max Verstappen or his father.
Horner, who left the team formally in September, cited the death of co‑founder Dietrich Mateschitz and a perceived need to reduce his control as factors. He expressed feeling hurt and surprised by the abrupt exit, noting he had not been given a chance to say goodbye.
