Oscar retires aged 34 due to cardiac problems

Former Brazil midfielder Oscar has retired at the age of 34 due to cardiac problems after fainting during a routine medical.

Former Brazil international Oscar, who spent days in hospital after fainting during a routine medical in November, has been forced to end his career at São Paulo. The 34-year-old attacking midfielder was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, a condition caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure, heart rate, and cerebral blood flow.

Oscar, who won two league titles in five years at Chelsea, had a contract with São Paulo that was due to expire in 2027. The club confirmed his retirement on Saturday, marking the end of a professional career that began in 2009 with Internacional.
