15-year-old Texas defenceman Kade O'Rourke has submitted an application for exceptional status in the Ontario Hockey League, potentially making him the first pure-born American to enter the league early.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, O'Rourke is seeking the status to join the OHL a year early, a move supported by those familiar with his game.

He recently led the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to the OHL Cup final, finishing the tournament as an all-star.
