Storm Dave halts Durham vs Kent County Championship match

Storm Dave's gale-force winds and heavy rain damaged the Banks Home Riverside ground, leading to the abandonment of Durham's County Championship match against Kent on day three.

Storm Dave brought gale-force winds, rain and snow to the Banks Home Riverside ground, blowing away pitch covers and damaging scaffolding. The Chester‑Le‑Street venue was closed for safety, then reopened at lunchtime, but a 3.40pm inspection found one end of the pitch too damp for play. Durham’s ground staff began clearing the area while head coach Adam Hollioake described the scene as a "war scene".

Durham had been in control of the opening match, leading 221 after a 335 first‑innings total and a 197 chase by Kent. With the pitch rendered unplayable, the day‑three session was cancelled, leaving the match unfinished.
