Colorado QB Had Double Legal Limit of Alcohol When Died

Colorado backup quarterback Dominiq Ponder had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he crashed and died in a single-car accident on March 1, according to an autopsy report.

Dominiq Ponder, a backup quarterback at Colorado, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.167 g/100 mL when he lost control of his Tesla, hit a guardrail and electrical pole, and rolled at least once, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The crash occurred about 3 a.m. on the day before the team's spring football practice.

Ponder's family has started The Dominiq Ponder 722 Foundation in his honor, which will provide scholarships for student-athletes, promote responsible decision-making awareness, and support children's hospitals. Colorado plans to honor him with a jersey patch this season.
