Johnson Defends Redick-Vanderbilt Spat

Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson defends Lakers coach JJ Redick's handling of his heated confrontation with forward Jarred Vanderbilt.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick and forward Jarred Vanderbilt had a heated exchange after Vanderbilt played just five minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The incident was caught on camera, with Vanderbilt leaving the arena immediately after the game.

Former NBA Sixth Man of the Year Eddie Johnson, however, doesn't see a major issue with the exchange. "Coaches are normally getting on their players, that's what they're supposed to be," Johnson said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. "There has to be a balance to keep those guys whole, keep their confidence up." Johnson believes Redick's status as a former player helps him maintain the right balance with his players.
