Report: Cavaliers’ James Harden suffers fracture in right thumb

James Harden‘s strong start with the Cleveland Cavaliers has reportedly hit a speed bump.

Harden sustained a fractured right thumb during Tuesday’s win over the New York Knicks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The 11-time all-star is currently undergoing further evaluation and treatment.

After being acquired by Cleveland ahead of this year’s trade deadline, Harden has averaged 18.9 points, 8.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds in seven games while shooting 49.4 per cent from the floor and 48.8 per cent from three.

The 36-year-old has led the Cavaliers to a 6-1 record with him in the lineup.

Boosted by the arrival of the former MVP, the Cavaliers have climbed to fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 37-22 record.

Cleveland dealt Darius Garland and a 2026 second-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers to secure Harden’s services.

Before the trade, Harden averaged 25.4 points, 8.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 44 games for the surging Clippers.
