The Los Angeles Dodgers took a 10-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, maintaining their perfect record to kick off spring training.
L.A. quickly fell behind in the first inning, as starter Roki Sasaki had trouble finding his feet at the beginning of the game. A single from Geraldo Perdomo led off the inning, and Tim Tawa drew a walk to put two on with no outs.
A spectacular play in centerfield from Hyeseong Kim recorded the first out of the inning, but back-to-back doubles in the following at-bats put the Dodgers at a 3-0 deficit.
The Dodgers scored a couple of runs of their own in the bottom of the first with some help from D-backs poor defense, as a Noah Miller single plated two after rolling through the right fielder’s legs and to the wall.
L.A. took the lead in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs in the frame. Kim hit an RBI single to level the game, and Santiago Espinal walked to load the bases in the following plate appearance.
Alex Freeland also drew a walk to give the Dodgers a 4-3 lead. Another Diamondbacks error — this time in the infield — saw the Dodgers score a run to increase their lead to two. Jake Gelof stepped up for his first plate appearance of the spring for the Dodgers and added another run after he drew a walk.
Arizona clawed a run back in the bottom of the fifth after a Pavin Smith homer off of Will Klein, but the Dodgers still held a two-run lead through the 6th inning.
They extended that lead in the top of the seventh inning, as Zyhir Hope continued his preseason tear with a two-run ground rule double. The D-Backs’ defensive woes continued later in the inning, as a poor throw to first went into the dugout and scored two runs to make the score 10-4.
The Dodgers allowed three more runs, two via solo homer and one via ninth-inning balk, before the end of the game, but ultimately held onto their lead.
The Dodgers’ pitching looked strong during the middle innings, with River Ryan, Edwin Diaz and Chris Campos all recording scoreless frames. They’ll look to keep this trend going as they continue to put together a strong preseason campaign.
The Dodgers will now be looking ahead to Thursday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, where Tyler Glasnow will make his first appearance of the spring.
