The Atlanta Braves suffered a couple of brutal injuries to two of their star pitchers in Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep, so logically they would go find a replacement. A name that was linked to them consistently was Lucas Giolito, but apparently, that might not even happen.
According to Fansided’s Robert Murray, while the Braves and Giolito seem like a good match, the Braves aren’t interested in signing the former All-Star.

“There are a few teams that are talking to free-agent right-hander Lucas Giolito. But he’s sifting through opportunities and appears willing to wait it out however long that may take. One team that made sense for Giolito, the Atlanta Braves, does not appear to be a serious threat. It’s surprising given the recent injuries to the Braves rotation, most notably to Spencer Schwellenbach, and a curious decision by Alex Anthopoulos. But unless there's further attrition, I’d be pretty surprised if Giolito, or even Littell, wound up in Atlanta,” Murray wrote.
Giolito finished 2025 with a 10-4 record, a 3.41 ERA, 121 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.290 over 145 innings pitched. He would be a logical replacement for at least one of the Braves’ injured pitchers, but for some reason they don’t seem interested.
He wouldn’t even cost much, either. Sure, he’s projected to get a three-year, $61 million deal, but that doesn’t take into account the fact Opening Day is around the corner, and his market was cold all offseason.
Atlanta could get Giolito for a steal, but it seems they don’t want to. Hopefully, they realize the error in this, and try to get him on their team ASAP.
