When the season began, some believed the Thunder and Nuggets were the two best teams in the NBA. Whether that's still true can be debated, but both Oklahoma City and Denver have legitimate championship hopes entering the final stretch of the regular season.
Both teams have had to weather injuries. The Thunder are still dealing with key absences, as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams have missed major time in February, while the Nuggets are still incomplete but have Nikola Jokic back healthy and playing well again.
Catching the Thunder in the standings might be nearly impossible for the Nuggets, but they are looking to at least create some separation between themselves and the teams behind them in the West. Denver is in position to have home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs as of now, but the crowded nature of the West means even a small stumble could carry major consequences.
The Thunder, meanwhile, have managed to pick up some key wins without Gilgeous-Alexander and are hoping to maintain their grip on the West's top seed.
