After a very productive career as a Texas Longhorn, Michael Taaffe is turning his attention to the NFL. At the NFL combine, he has been a popular player and has already reportedly met with the Eagles and 49ers. The Austin native could be in high demand when the NFL Draft rolls around for teams looking to improve their secondary.
For those who have watched Taaffe play, the heavy interest comes as no surprise. He recorded 221 total tackles and seven interceptions as a Longhorn. He also had 14 pass deflections and was a key part of the secondary. That is not bad for a player who began his career as a walk-on.

While the Taaffe will have to wait a few more months to know where he will begin his pro career, he does have a unique connection to the Eagles and 49ers. Their rosters include two of his former teammates in Andrew Mukuba and Alfred Collins. Mukuba and Taaffe are still very close and would be a formidable duo for the Eagles.
Whoever drafts Taaffe will not only be getting an elite player but also someone who gives back to the community. He won the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which is college football's premier award for community service. The Westlake High Alumni's off-the-field work included spreading awareness about fentanyl poisoning.

Although Taaffe is not expected to hear his name called during the first round, his stock has been on the rise. That is partly due to a 40-yard dash during the combine that was better than some scouts expected. He also showed great hands during drills, which has generated excitement about his future.
Over the next few months, Taaffe's focus will be on continuing to improve his draft position as he looks to turn his dream of playing in the NFL into a reality.
