Kansas Coach Bill Self on Latest Darryn Peterson Exit: 'It's a Concern'
Kansas Jayhawks star Darryn Peterson went off in the team's Wednesday night road victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The problem? He only lasted 18 minutes. During the second half, Peterson pointed to the Kansas bench to be taken out of the game with 17:42 remaining in the second half due to cramping, ending the freshman's night. Jayhawks head coach Bill Self spoke on the matter after the game. "We've had it happen [Peterson get hurt] more than a couple of times. I didn't anticipate that tonight at all," Self said in his postgame press conference about Peterson leaving the Jayhawks' 81-69 win over the Cowboys. "I thought he was good to go, but, obviously, we only got 18 minutes out of him. That's disappointing because he could've had a really big night, but one thing about it is it's happened often enough that our guys have learned to play without him, even though that's not the way we want to play. But that's certainly something that we're not unaccustomed to right now." Peterson has missed 11 games this season due to a combination of hamstring, quad, ankle and cramping issues, while also missing time due to illness. Wednesday night was one of multiple instances where Peterson has checked himself out of a game. "It's a concern," Self said about Peterson, according to ESPN. "I thought we were past it, but obviously we're not. It's certainly a concern. "You get into the NCAA tournament, you're playing a team just as good as you and you need to have all your best players available, so to speak. All it takes is for one day like that to derail not only a game, but a season. "It's concerning, but I do think we're making progress with it." When Peterson has been on the floor, he has dazzled. Despite his night ending early, Peterson still finished Wednesday with a game-high 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field, 6 of 10 shooting from behind the arc and 3 of 4 shooting from the charity stripe. Across the 15 games that he has appeared in this season, Peterson, a potential top-five pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, is averaging 20.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals in 26.9 minutes per game, while shooting 48.5/43.1/79.5. The No. 8-ranked Jayhawks are 20-6 overall and 10-3 in Big 12 play, good for fourth in the conference.
Chicago Bears release statement as Indiana committee passes Hammond stadium bill
The Chicago Bears have released a new statement on a potential new stadium as Indiana lawmakers moved forward with a bill to bring the team to Hammond.
The Bears said in a statement, "The passage of SB 27 would mark the most meaningful step forward in our stadium planning efforts to date. We are committed to finishing the remaining site-specific necessary due diligence to support our vision to build a world-class stadium near the Wolf Lake area in Hammond, Indiana. We appreciate the leadership shown by Governor Braun, Speaker Huston, Senator Mishler and members of the Indiana General Assembly in establishing this critical framework and path forward to deliver a premier venue for all of Chicagoland and a destination for Bears fans and visitors from across the globe. We value our partnership and look forward to continuing to build our working relationship together."

Thursday morning legislators voted unanimously to push a bill out of the Ways and Means Committee.
The bill would create the Northwest Indiana Stadium authority similar to Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.
This could convince the Chicago Bears to cross state line and build a new stadium.
Lawmakers said the Bears would pay $2 billion toward construction costs.
The proposal includes new food, beverage, and innkeepers taxes in Indiana's northwest counties to help pay for the stadium and infrastructure.
Among the people who spoke during Thursday's hearing include Hammond's Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr and the Indiana Speaker of the House Rep. Todd Huston.
"Hammond is ready to partner with the Chicago Bears, basically Hammond would do whatever it takes to help make this project a success," Mayor McDermott Jr. said. "Hammond is uniquely positions for this moment, we are part of the Chicagoland region."
"We've had excellent conversations with the Chicago Bears and we are forging a relationship that would be a foundation for a public/private partnership leaned on construction of a world class stadium," Speaker Huston said.
The news comes as an Illinois House committee that could have brought the Bears a step closer to a new stadium in Illinois was canceled.
The House Revenue and Finance Committee canceled a meeting Wednesday to hear the "Mega Project" bill.
No date has been set on a new hearing.

Premier League defender does not rule out Barcelona move amid widespread interest
AFC Bournemouth and Argentina defender Marcos Senesi happens to be one of the players FC Barcelona are monitoring ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Blaugrana are scouring the market for a left-footed centre-back before next season. And while Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni would be the dream target, finances make a move unlikely.
Senesi, meanwhile, is seen as a much more feasible option, considering his contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of the season, making him a free agent.
However, the South American defender has been garnering a lot of interest from several other top clubs as well.
Senesi yet to make a decision
Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Senesi’s entourage still maintains the possibility of joining Barcelona as a future option and has not ruled it out at this stage.

Several Premier League sides, among them Chelsea, as well as clubs from other leagues, such as Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, are monitoring his situation.
However, a source from the player’s camp acknowledges that when Barcelona show interest, it is difficult not to take it into account. As such, nothing has been ruled out because the opportunity to play for the Catalan club is always appealing.
Senesi is a player that the Blaugrana have been following for a long time now, and the interest can be traced back to 2018 when he was still at San Lorenzo.
With the La Liga champions still holding an interest and the player also seemingly open to the idea of making the move happen, it remains to be seen if this develops into something substantial in the coming months.
