According to Cunningham, who left Chicago to take the Atlanta GM position, the NFL's Rooney Rule should grant the Bears two third-round picks for developing him. "I'm the General Manager. I was hired. I would think that they would get two third-round picks," he stated.
The Bears are not expected to receive those picks, however, as the NFL considers Matt Ryan, Atlanta's president of football operations, as the team's top football executive. Bears GM Ryan Poles called the situation "a little odd," noting the Chiefs received picks when he was hired in Chicago.
