Football introduces new rule to combat time-wasting

Football's law-making body IFAB has approved a new rule requiring injured players to wait one minute on the sidelines before returning to play, aimed at combating time-wasting.

Currently, no specific rule exists in football's rulebook regarding how long treated players must remain off the field, allowing leagues to set their own guidelines. The Premier League has operated with a 30-second rule since 2023/24.

Many in football have long called for a regulation to limit players from feigning injuries to waste time, with the new rule set to take effect following IFAB's annual general assembly this Saturday.
