Fitzgerald proposes college football calendar changes

Michigan State football coach Pat Fitzgerald outlined several proposed changes to the college football calendar during a recent podcast with ESPN's David Pollack.

During his appearance on ESPN's podcast, Fitzgerald suggested moving up the start of the season and relocating the national championship game to January 1st. He also proposed eliminating conference championship games and scheduling bowl games to be played one week after the regular season concludes.

The former Northwestern head coach additionally advocated for implementing home playoff games, similar to the NFL, FCS, and Division II models. These suggestions come as part of ongoing discussions about potential reforms to the college football calendar.
