RFU to confirm radical revamp for English rugby structure

The Rugby Football Union is set to approve a radical structural overhaul for English rugby, separating the Gallagher Premiership from the rest of the pyramid and scrapping traditional promotion and relegation.

The proposed structure will see the top flight operate independently of the rest of the rugby pyramid, eliminating promotion and relegation immediately.

Ambitious clubs, including dormant former powerhouses like Wasps or top Championship sides, will be able to apply for a place in an expanded league of 12 teams by 2030.
