Sports Ministry Bars 'India' Use in DCCI Name

The Union sports ministry has ordered the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India to remove 'India' from its name, as it is not a recognized National Sports Federation.

The ministry stated that only government-recognized federations are permitted to use the terms 'India' or 'Indian' in their names and activities. Similar notices have been sent to other sports bodies including the Women's Football Federation of India and the Indian Body Builders' Federation.

DCCI secretary Ravi Kant Chauhan confirmed receiving the letter and requested NSF status, noting that despite lack of formal recognition, the council has organized World Cups, Asia Cups, and national tournaments with BCCI's backing. The ministry cited the National Sports Governance Act as the legal basis for these directives.
