NFL GM Rips Tate's 40 Time at Combine

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane jokingly criticized Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate's 4.54-second 40-yard dash time during the NFL Scouting Combine broadcast.

During Saturday's NFL Scouting Combine broadcast on NFL Network, Bills GM Brandon Beane couldn't resist poking fun at top 2026 NFL Draft prospect Carnell Tate. After the Ohio State wide receiver posted a 4.54-second 40-yard dash, which left him outside the top 10 fastest receivers, Beane quipped, "He's pretty slow. I probably wouldn't take him early. Did you see how slow he was out of the gate? The corner's gonna lock him down."

Despite the joke, Tate remains firmly in the first-round conversation. The Buckeyes standout emerged as a key playmaker in 2025, finishing his junior season with 51 receptions for 875 yards and nine touchdowns after posting 52 catches for 733 yards and four scores during Ohio State's 2024 national championship run. Beane might simply be playing with a good poker face, hoping Tate slips to Buffalo at No. 26 overall.
