For much of the game, San Jose State showed it could compete with Colorado State, one of the Mountain West's hottest teams. The Spartans shot 52% in the first half and led briefly in the second half behind Colby Garland's 28 points and 8 assists.
However, Colorado State's precision offense proved too much to handle. The Rams shot 62% from the field and 53% from three, with Brandon Rechsteiner scoring 15 first-half points on five three-pointers. San Jose State couldn't sustain its defensive energy down the stretch, allowing the Rams to pull away for the victory.
