Chicago Fire FC Breaks Ground on $750m Stadium

Chicago Fire FC has begun building a $750m stadium at The 78 in the South Loop, the first major professional venue in Chicago in over 30 years.

The club’s groundbreaking ceremony on the Chicago River site saw owner Joe Mansueto, president Dave Baldwin and city officials cut the first sod. The $750m project, designed by Gensler, will seat more than 22,000 on a grass pitch and include a dedicated supporters section.

Planners expect the venue to host MLS matches, concerts and community events, with a target opening for the 2028 season. The stadium is part of a broader $1bn investment that also includes the Endeavor Health Performance Center and expanded academy programs.
