Walton Buys Stake in Diamondbacks

Denver Broncos owner Rob Walton, the wealthiest owner in major American sports, has acquired a 10% stake in the Arizona Diamondbacks at a $2 billion franchise valuation.

The transaction, which occurred in 2024 but remained undisclosed, will fund renovations to Chase Field, with the team committing $250 million to ballpark improvements. Walton, worth an estimated $146 billion according to Forbes, will serve as a limited partner with no decision-making responsibilities or involvement in team operations.

The Diamondbacks, managed by general partner Ken Kendrick, had previously considered bringing in additional investors to provide capital for team needs. Walton's investment represents a significant addition to the franchise's ownership structure while maintaining the existing leadership's control over day-to-day operations.
