Golfer Andrea Pavan discharged after elevator shaft fall

Andrea Pavan has been discharged from a South African hospital following a freak three-story elevator shaft fall that left him with shoulder and back injuries.

The 36‑year‑old Italian golfer was hospitalized after falling three stories in an elevator shaft during the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He underwent shoulder and back surgery and suffered fractures to several vertebrae.

Pavan was discharged on Wednesday and will stay in South Africa for about five weeks of rehabilitation before returning to the United States. He thanked supporters and noted that walking again feels like a miracle.
